Last weekend Charis, Seren and I found this epic battle taking place on a mountain top near Ambleside in Cumbria.
This insect eating plant is the English Sundew (Drosera anglica) though I have no idea what species the fly is. If we had filmed long enough we would have seen the leaf bend over and envelope the fly completely.
The video above was filmed using the macro setting on a Sanyo HD1010 Camcorder. Amazingly the fly was less than a millimeter long and was about one centimeter from the lens of the camera. As you can see (especially if you are watching in HD) the large lens and sensor chip of this camera really work well together to produce high quality macro footage.
