Barclays Tech Innovation Challenge Live Stream and Video

I've recently been involved in a complex project for Barclays which involved live streaming the launch of the project to schools in Manchester, Cheshire and Lithuania.  Then I traveled around some of the high schools to record the teams progress.  Then finally I live streamed (securely behind a password as kids were involved) the finals day at Barclays, including the prize giving which was done by The Chancellor George Osborne MP.

Here's a short 1 min video I made for Barclays covering the full project.

So as you can see not all the shots were shot in the same style as the video is a mix of footage from the live stream, footage shot on a DSLR, footage from the event filming cameras and even a couple of shots from my mobile phone.

Live Streaming Everywhere!

Since my last post I have been very busy with a lot of stuff including having a new baby (Griffin Robert Rufus Rae), officially adopting my other son (Invisible Son -> Real Son), buying an electric car (Reva/G-Wiz), etc.  On the work side of things I have invested in a lot of equipment to improve the live streaming side of my business.

I'm now able to mix live video from multiple cameras plus skype calls to make a professional live stream like I did  at the Manchester Lean Startup Group where Eric Ries called in:

I have also been live streaming TEDx Salford, Hack Manchester and teaching students at Manchester Met how to use the equipment.

I'm also trying out some Google Adwording to send a bit of traffic to the Live streaming page of my website.  I'll let you know how it goes...

10km Run Live Stream with Virtual Donations Bucket!

Tomorrow/today I'm running the Leeds 10km race!

Although you can sponsor me on my Justgiving.com Page, I'm not doing it primarily to raise money but more for personal goals eg. to get fit and for the technical challenge. That said, please do consider donating as the money will go to a good cause and I've set my self the target of raising £10k for 10k.

As an experiment I'm also going to be live streaming my entire run from a camera which will be mounted to my chest, giving updates, taking questions and requests as I go. Take a moment to log into the chat window below and send me messages of support as I run!

I'll be live from 8.30am, the race starts at 9am and I'll be finishing at about 10.20am.

I'll also have a Glympse tracking my gps so be able to follow me exactly. http://glympse.com/7DV-E4Y

Please share this experiment with your friends, check in on this post as I go, send me messages of support in the chat box and please donate.

Amazing Beatboxing on Juggling Live

Last weekend I spent a few days in Nottingham at the British Juggling Convention producing hours and hours of video content for one of my side projects, www.JugglingLive.com

Here's one of the highlights of the convention, an act from the Renegade Stage on Saturday night, which so popular Vid came back the following night and rocked the stage again.  Charley Dancy and Haggis were hosting that night...

For more content from the BJC and last years EJC get over to the JugglingLive site and check out the archive.

The beatboxer on the video is Vid Warren of www.vidwarren.com

Another great thing about Juggling Live last week was working with the sponsors who made it all possible! Check out the Greentop Circus and, if you're wanting to make more money as a performer, go sign up for the How To Sell Your Act eBook.

Live Streaming with Dawkins, Fry and Friends at TAM London

This weekend I'm heading to London for "The Amazing Meeting" with Richard Dawkins, Steven Fry, Tim Minchin and many others.  The event is a "fundraising celebration of science, critical thinking and entertainment!"

I mention this as I will be Live Streaming some of the talks including Cory Doctorow's, panel discussions as well as interviews with interesting and entertaining people.  You can see the Live Stream and find more information about the event over here: http://www.tamlondon.org/2010live

Follow me on twitter for announcements and schedule info as it becomes available.

Or watch it right here:

If you have any projects or events coming up which you would like to live stream, I offer a full Professional Production Service but also provide training and advice so you can put together your own equipment and run the Live Stream yourself.  Email with any comments or quires.

Ninja Tempei and Live Streaming Editing

At the moment I'm in the middle of editing the DVD of the European Juggling Convention Gala Show.  Lot's of people are waiting for the release so I thought I'd offer  a sneak peek of one of the best moments in the show.

Juggling genius Tempei pulls off an awesome ninja style save after dropping a vetax suicide.  Enjoy!

I'm going to be editing the EJC DVD today (13th Oct).  You can come watch, join in, chat, ask questions, etc. at http://www.nathanrae.co.uk/ejclive/

Remember to order you EJC DVD from http://www.ejc2010.org/dvd

EJC Live! Where the European Juggling Convention comes to you...

This is an announcement I have seeded onto facebook, web forums and discussion groups of a large project I am organising for the European Juggling Convention.  Basically I am going to be live video streaming as much of the festival as possible.  Over the next few days i'll also be producing a video announcement and releasing more details.  But for now, here's the text version:

Announcing EJC Live! Where the EJC comes to you.

This year the EJC Organising Committee are proud to announce a new concept in juggling conventions which takes the amazing performances, events, atmosphere and energy of the EJC to a world wide audience.  All you need is a few hours to spare and computer with some broad band attached!
Watch hours of original content streamed live from the EJC every day at www.EJC2010.org/live (web page coming soon).
Live streamed events will include:
Fight Night, Eurovision, Competitions, The Games, Open Stages, Renegades and anything else which is happening within Wifi range.  We'll be posting a full schedule in the coming few weeks.
There will also be many hours of extra content daily including interviews and discussions with the guest artists, prop manufactures, interesting people, geeky site swap theorists, hard core sports jugglers, plus any one else who you request before or during the event.  Daily competitions and quizes with prizes* will take place for live viewers and those at the EJC to get involved with.†
Most video content will be immediately archived as online episodes so anyone who can't watch live can catch up later.  For those lucky jugglers attending the EJC, you can watch the episodes when you get home.  An EJC2010 DVD will also be available after the event with exclusive footage including the Gala Show plus many highlights from EJC Live!
Alongside the the EJC Live! video content at www.EJC2010.org/live there will be a live chat room where you can discuss what's going on, ask questions for the guests, make suggestions, etc.  You can also tweet @nathanrae or use the hash tag #ejclive to get your comments to us and around the world.
Although this is technically a Nathan Rae Production, EJC Live! is for the European and global juggling community and will only work if the community helps out.  The best way to do this is to watch it live, get involved in the chat room, ask questions for guest interviews, make suggestions, etc.
The next best thing to do is to tell all your juggling friends about EJC Live! at your juggling clubs, facebook groups, forums, etc.  Then when you are watching live please tweet/facebook/email about it as much as possible.
And lastly here are two quick audience competitions for you.†  Winners and prizes for these competitions will be announced on the first day of the convention.
We need an EJC Live! logo.  Something bright which fits with the over all EJC2010 branding.  Get creative and email your entries here: nathan@nathanrae.co.uk with "EJC LOGO" in the subject line.
We would also like some theme music, about 20-30 seconds, upbeat and fun (but not too cheesy).  Please send you mp3 files here: nathan@nathanrae.co.uk** with "EJC MUSIC" in the subject line.
So copy and past this post anywhere you can, spread the word and get involved!
Thanks,
Nathan Rae and the EJC Organising Committee

DO YOU WANT TO HELP OUT AT THE EJC?  We are looking for some helpers to make the show run smoothly.  We'll also be on the lookout for a couple of cohosts for some of the events.  Email me if you would like to get involved: Email nathan@nathanrae.co.uk with EJC HELP in the subject line.
DO YOU WANT TO HELP OUT FROM HOME?  We'll be needing a couple of chat room moderators, a question wrangler/researcher and a twitter/facebook monkey to help out daily.  You'll get some gear/tickets (depending on what is donated) and loads of respect.  Email: nathan@nathanrae.co.uk with EJC HELP in the subject line.

*If we get some sponsors on board.
† Terms and conditions only exist in my head and my decisions are final.
** Some donated gear as prizes or a couple of free tickets is all it takes. Hard cash also welcome.

Live Ustream of Final Cut Pro Editing Today at 14:30 Bst

As a bit of an experiment I'm going to be using Ustream to live stream myself as I use Final Cut Pro to do some editing.  You'll be able to view me and my computer screen, ask questions, give comments, etc.

You can see the "show" by clicking through to this page: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/nathanrae/v3

I'll be editing a short "Making Of" documentary from the International Woman's Day Dance and Bra event.  I've embedded the dance video here:
